Gibraltar – Perfect location in Europe
On the doorstep to Southern Spain, and a short distance from the North African coastline, Gibraltar stands out as an iconic symbol. Said to be one of the original Pillars of Hercules, a striking Rock extending over a fairly flat horizon. Gibraltar’s enjoys long, sun-filled summers and mild winters, which with its amazing views out to the Mediterranean and Atlantic and distinctive landmarks makes the Rock an ideal wedding location.
Rich in History & Culture
An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was subsequently ceded to Britain “in perpetuity” under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It was an important base for the Royal Navy but today its economy is based largely on tourism, financial services, and shipping. Gibraltar governs its own affairs, though some powers, such as defence and foreign relations, remain the responsibility of the UK Government.
Simple Legislation – Convenient Solutions
In recent years, Gibraltar has enjoyed a new level of popularity as more couples come to Gibraltar to take advantage of the more relaxed Registry laws, following in the footsteps of many famous names, not least John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who flew in for the day just over 40 years ago! It’s a moment in history that is now part of Gibraltar’s own! The legislation in Gibraltar enables British citizens to get married with just 24 hours’ notice. Gibraltar Airport has daily flights connecting the Rock to major UK airports and has a busy cruise ship port that sees hundreds of cruise liners coming to the Rock every year.
With the many cruise liners that dock in Gibraltar daily we also see many couples wishing to get married whilst on a cruise around the Mediterranean Sea. This is also possible with the right planning done ahead of the cruise.
